Book Distribution
Shelf space in book shops is quite valuable and few authors manage to make it here.
One of the best way to make an independently published book widely available is to
have it listed on the major on-
Amazon and Abebooks
It is fairly straightforward to set up an account on these sites for a small monthly fee and make books available worldwide. Ohm Books can offer a service to authors where we hold stock and ship orders around the world when they are received from these sites. Remittances will be made to authors at monthly or quarterly intervals, depending on sales.
Example 1 (low volume book):
Selling price £20
Amazon charges £2
Remittance to Ohm Books £18
Ohm Books charges £4
Remittance to author £14
Example 2 (high volume book):
Selling price £10
Amazon charges £1
Remittance to Ohm Books £9
Ohm Books charges £1
Remittance to author £8
Note: Author has to take cost of printing into account.
Print on Demand
Another way of making books available widely and not hold stock is through ‘print on demand’. For example Createspace allows authors and publishers to upload book files to their website. There is no physical stock held. Once an order is received for a book, a single copy is printed and shipped out.
Example:
Selling price £4.99
Print cost £2.00
Fees £1.46
Remittance to author £1.53
Note 1: Costs vary based on number of pages in the book.
Note 2: Print costs are already taken into account.
